From the Field: EnhanceWellness Marketing Ideas

How are you marketing EnhanceWellness to your community? Here are ideas from some EW delivery sites. What would you add to the list?

  • Host or attend a resource fair
  • Introduce the program and/or yourself on your organization’s website and/or newsletter
  • Post flyers/pamphlets (in-person & online)
  • Referrals from other programs and groups (e.g., exercise classes, support groups or caregiver groups)
  • Inform local physicians and retirement communities about the program
  • Collaborate with local service organizations
  • Offer to present about EW to Boards of Directors, staff, funders, etc.
  • Collect and share participant testimonials

EnhanceWellness Research Spotlight

University of Washington’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine has been actively involved in adapting and evaluating the EnhanceWellness health coaching program for people with long-term physical disabilities. This evaluation work has included a pilot trial of 119 individuals funded by the National Institute of Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR; 90RT5023-01-00; 2015-2019) as well as an ongoing randomized controlled trial of 600 individuals, funded through the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR; 1R01NR016942-01A1; 2018-2023). We are looking forward to learning from researcher data analysis in the year ahead!

EnhanceWellness Affiliate Spotlight

We are excited to welcome Asian Americans for Community Involvement! AACI serves individuals and families with cultural humility, sensitivity and respect, advocating for and serving the marginalized and ethnic communities in Santa Clara County, CA. This quarter, six AACI network partners serving Chinese, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese speaking participants have completed EW Coach training. We are pleased that AACI has chosen EW as a tool to assist in fulfilling their mission to strengthen the resilience and hope of diverse community members by improving their health and well-being.

Active People, Healthy NationSM

Project Enhance is proud to participate in Active People, Healthy NationSM, a national initiative to help 27 million Americans become more physically active by 2027. This initiative promotes effective strategies recommended by the Community Preventive Services Task Force to improve physical activity. CDC, in collaboration with state, community, and national partners, promotes these proven strategies through Active People, Healthy Nation to ensure that all Americans have access to safe and accessible places for physical activity. University of Washington pilot study findings show #EnhanceFitness delivered via videoconference a promising way to increase access to appropriate physical activity and reduce pain for rural older adults:

Something to Celebrate!

Sound Generations, in partnership with the University of Washington Health Promotion Research Center, is planning for an EnhanceFitness 30th anniversary celebration. To coincide with Older Americans and National Physical Fitness month, we are aiming for our celebration to occur next year, in May 2023.

We welcome your ideas as to what a festive celebration might look like! Please complete our brief survey by May 23rd.

Join a free, virtual exercise and educational program through the University of Washington PACIFIC Study! The PACIFIC is looking for older adults who:

  • Are 65 years and older
  • Live in King County, WA
  • Have knee arthritis that affects their activity
  • Are looking to establish an exercise routine

Welcome Admir Gerzic, Training Coordinator!

Please welcome Admir Gerzic, our new Project Enhance Training Coordinator. Admir is from Bosnia and has made his home in the Pacific Northwest for many years. He previously worked as a Healthcare System Training Coordinator. Admir enjoys spending time with his family, going on hikes and working on cars. Deidre Daymon Named ASA Rise Fellow

Please join us in celebrating Deidre Daymon, Assistant Director of Health, Wellness and Project Enhance upon her selection to the Inaugural Cohort of American Society on Aging RISE Fellows. Fellows will lead a national allyship project in one of ASA’s five strategic priority areas to drive systemic change in aging.

Hot off the press: Clinical-community linkages as a strategy for increasing evidence-based program reach: Results of the PT-REFER randomized controlled trial with older adults and YMCA associations

A fillable PDF version of the Instructor Review Form—used by Master Trainers for instructor reviews and by Instructors for self-assessment—is now available in the Program Forms area of EF ODES. Contact Meghan Thompson with any questions.

Password Policy Update … Still Coming

ODES and WellWare system users! As we noted in November, we’ll soon be providing guidance on changes to password policies for your database accounts. We were planning for end of December to start making these changes, but we’ll be pushing this out to March 2022.

Using a longer and more complicated password and changing it more often is an important way to protect your account from unauthorized access.
